“The wasted years, the wasted youth. The pretty lies, the ugly truth”

-Teen Idle, by Marina and the Diamonds

Death is something not many people talk about. It is often held unaccountable for and is labelled as a ‘dark and gloomy’ topic of conversation. Which is quite understandable considering the pain and depression that death can cause that person and the lives they have touched whilst living their lives. Not only this- it is also a stressful topic. Most people work their asses off just to make sure they leave enough money and legacy behind for their family when they pass. Often this doesn’t end well.

To me- death is a deadline.

No pun intended.

It is a deadline to get my goals sorted out before then- a bucket list.

But I don’t want to keep this a secret from the world- which is why I am writing this article.

So these are the key things you need to consider before you die.

Read Poetry… Everyday… And Quote the Living Shit Out of It

Get off your phone, laptop, iPad or whatever and walk to the nearest book store or thrift shop and find a poetry book and read the living fuck out of it.

If you can’t find anything- pick up your device and order it online or download it through Kindle, iBooks etc…

Then please- quote it every day, whenever it is possible. Even if it’s through an online post or face to face with a friend. Quote a line. It will make a difference. Make it your life motto.

Be Artistic and Take Art Classes

Even if you are not the artistic individual you want to be, go to art classes, watch YouTube tutorials and do it with your friends or your significant other. Art is the connection to your inner human condition and it allows your thoughts to be visually represented on blank canvases or empty plain white paper notepads.

Allow yourself to have paint marks on your clothes and on your fingertips, buy those brushes and notepads and begin to paint, draw and sketch away. If your someone who loves photography… make the investment and buy yourself a camera and take photographs of things that have meaning to you and others. Or be extraordinary and get into street art and have an urban appeal. Whatever you do, be artistic in the theme of visual arts.

Go to Museums, Art Galleries, and Art Shows

If you the person who admires beautification and the simplicity of visually appealing things, go to your local gallery and seek your unknown. Go alone with music in your ears, interpret your inner thoughts and reactions to each piece. Take someone with you and converse.

Get into *Meaningful* Heated Debates… with Everybody

Okay, when I say this I mean don’t actually fight anybody. Instead speak strong, influential words- a verbal argument.

You can make it about feminism, politics, sex trafficking, child labor or even economic standing. These are the topics you should consider talking about.

Don’t Be Afraid to Walk In A Protest

Walking a protest gives you a platform to stand on. A voice to be heard by thousands to millions of others that will agree with you.

But please don’t shoot someone or get violent… We don’t need more deaths in the world.

Night Classes or Uni/College Courses

You're never too young or old to stop learning and engaging with others. Go to night classes and take up a hobby or a skill you are willing to achieve, go to your nearest uni/college and sign up for a course even and work hard to achieve the skill or hobby you want to go towards. Meet other people with likeminded interests. Be awarded a certificate or a diploma or a degree even.

Go For Your Dream Job

Yes, even if your dream job is being the president or the prime minister, work towards your professional career and work hard for it. Network with strangers, socialize and become more in-depth with those around you and think critically and creatively. Step out of your comfort zone!

Pack Up Your Stuff and Leave… Travel the World and Wander

Not many people will agree with this idea but this is the only way you will find your place in the world. By traveling, exploring new things and meeting new people you will find a home away from home, even if it means living the life of a nomad. Go to places you never thought existed before, to places that are foreign to you.

Plus- it gives you something to brag about on your Instagram feed and to your friends. ;)

Fall in Love… Thousands of Times

“Shall you find love, yet shall you find heartbreak”

That’s the flight and the downfall of romance and love. However, why should these fears stop you? You could be 10 men/women away from finding ‘the One’.

Not only this- but it gives you the experience and the stories that you can share with everybody.

Even if it means being labeled a ‘fuckboy or slut’. It’s worth it. Make love to millions of strangers even if you never find your soulmate, you are worthy of being loved.

And tell that special person that you love them. Never fear rejection, it’s love and it’s inevitable.

Share Your Stories

Share your stories, experiences or photographs with everybody you know and are about to know between the time you are reading this blog to the time that you are going to die.

Whether it’s through blogs, articles, stories told over brunch with friends or family or on daily Vlogs on YouTube (don’t be a Paul brother please). Share your story with the world!

And that’s the things you need the consider before dying.
